The project refers to a ground level residence which features an outdoor swimming pool and a guest house in a separate underlying level.
The plan is an elaboration on a basic embracing L shape, which opens itself towards the South so as to achieve the best orientation and protection from the northwestern winds. The back branch of the plan houses the sleeping areas whereas the daytime activities are hosted in the front ones. Both parts open up to the wide outdoor area that serves as an intermediary zone between the house and the swimming pool.
The two branches of the house are simultaneously divided and connected by a linear element that features the materiality of a paved corridor. It is a protected zone that connects the main entrance with the yard. It aligns with the East-West axis and is followed by a light metal structure. It permeates the building and comes out of it serving sequentially as a canopy over the entrance, a suspended ceiling for the interior hallway, a pergola for the outdoor space and finally as a shading mechanism for the southern window.
The increased ascent of the plot as well as the rocky terrain played significant role to the proposed design. The placement of the guest house in a separate level underneath the residence, integrates the building to the steep hillside while allowing it to open up to private outdoor areas.
The color of the plaster proposed for the exterior as well as the stone walls of the outdoor areas serve to implement the house to the materiality of the landscape. The intended gesture was one of emergence out of the rocky terrain. The metal elements are painted in MINIO hue and they signify the human movement through the landscape.
